Sage (Salvia officinalis)

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a very aromatic, spicy oil that is said to benefit both the mind and the body. It is good for the hair, and it moisturizes aging and sagging skin.  It is also used in aromatherapy to stimulate the mind, ease anxiety and combat fatigue.  Clary sage (Salvia sclarea), which has a more floral scent, provides a euphoric balance.  Both should be used with caution and avoided by pregnant women and children.

Gardenia grandiflora (Gardenia Absolute Essential Oil) comes from the plant's gorgeous flowers before they blossom into an orange fruit species.  The flowers have been used for thousands of years because of their incredible aroma that almost intoxicates the senses.  This oil symbolizes love, harmony and grace and is used in aromatherapy for relieving anxiety, depression, insomnia and stress.  It has been used as an anti-inflammatory because it is said to help relieve muscular and joint aches.  Gardenia essential oil is also very beneficial for improving blood circulation.  Chinese herbalists value this oil for its antiseptic and antioxidant properties and use it to treat infections.  It is also known for its aphrodisiac qualities.

Gardenia (Gardenia grandiflora)

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)

Who doesn't love rosemary? It has a strong, herbaceous, sweet and sometimes medicinal aroma. We have all used it to showcase our  culinary versatility, but it can also be used to fight wrinkles, acne, sagging skin, dandruff, and oily scalp. In aromatherapy, rosemary oil is used for mental clarity and headache relief, as well as muscle and joint pain relief.

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus)

The beautiful citrusy aroma of lemongrass essential oil blends well for facial toners and acts as a natural astringent.  It is invigorating and works wonderfully as an antidepressant. It is said to treat muscle and joint aches, headaches and abdominal discomfort.

We love, love love the aroma of eucalyptus. It should be filtered into every home and office daily. It is strong, herbaceous, woodsy and beautiful. Not only does inhaling it work wonders for colds and the flu, it is also good for cuts and scrapes.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)

Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender Essential Oil) is one of nature’s most versatile and most used essential oils.  Its therapeutic benefits are immeasurable and date back to biblical times.  It is known to relieve stress and anxiety and to promote sleep.  It has been used for centuries to treat headaches, nervousness and depression because of its calming scent.  It also has been used to reduce joint and muscle soreness, as well as treat inflammatory ailments and skin disorders.  Many have even enjoyed its respiratory health benefits.  If I could only choose one item that would be in my medicine cabinet, I would choose lavender.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

Along with lavender, peppermint oil is one of the most used essential oils. It has a cool, soothing, warming effect. It has been used for centuries as  a digestive aid, as well as a joint and muscle pain reliever. It blends well with lavender and acts as an invigorating energy booster and insect repellant.  Blended with lavender, it is said to improve eczema and psoriosis. Blended with rosemary, it is said to  promote hair growth.
